About us
We were born in 2009 when the UN’s Ethical Fashion Initiative setup a social project in Nairobi to coordinate production with marginalised communities throughout the region.
As a true success story, the project has greatly expanded and in 2015, we became an independent social enterprise. Today, we work with some of the most recognisable fashion brands in the world specialising in the production of: jewellery, bags, homeware and accessories.
With a careful consideration for social impact, we offer our clients the opportunity to improve, trace and report on the fortunes of those involved in their production. We support the development of African design talent encouraging manufacturing with local artisans, and supporting the development of export capacities.
In 2021, we entered a Public Private Partnership with the EFI and a collaboration with La Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana in the co-creation of an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Due Diligence System.
Artisan Fashion is the first producer in Africa to adopt this ESG Due Diligence System. By working with us, brands are welcomed into the EFI Public Private Partnership whereby they have the opportunity to: better achieve their ESG goals and be a part of sustainability conversations for the future.
